Pera was formed, as the Production Engineering Research Association, solely to support British Manufacturers to succeed; a role it has been fulfilling for 65 years. During that period, Pera has been retained by the UK Government to deliver the British Technology Advice Service in the 1960’s; The Production Engineering Advisory Service in the 1970’s; the National MAS in the 1980’s and Enterprise Initiative for Manufacturing in the 1990’s. In the intervening period, we have continuously delivered the Regional MAS in the East Midlands and have delivered in partnership in the South East and London and  provided services to Yorkshire MAS and WM MAS. Today, Pera is an international, technology led organisation of 500 engineers, scientists and advisors that remains focussed on its founding ethos of supporting manufacturers to succeed.

The West Midlands Manufacturing Consortium Ltd

West Midlands Manufacturing Consortium

The West Midlands Manufacturing Consortium Ltd was set up in 2002 as a special purpose vehicle to deliver MAS in the West Midlands. WMMC Ltd was established as a not-for-profit company by three member organisations, Warwick Manufacturing Group, the EEF and  BusinessLink West Midlands. Since its start up it has worked with nearly 17,000 manufacturers, and delivered 5484 in depth interventions and generated around £100m of QCD improvements per year. In addition to MAS , WMMC delivers sector support programmes for Rail (Rail Alliance) , Aerospace (SC21) and Automotive and has also run the “Inside Manufacturing Enterprise” which worked with local Businesses & schools to encourage 14-17 year olds into manufacturing.

South West Manufacturing Advisory Service Ltd

The South West Manufacturing Advisory Service Ltd

The South West Manufacturing Advisory Service Ltd was established at the beginning of MAS in 2002 with the purpose of delivering the MAS service to manufacturers in the South West of England. Since this time, SWMAS has delivered for MAS:

  • Over 3000 companies at Level 1
  • 1840 Level manufacturing reviews
  • More than 1000 businesses engaging in improvement projects
  • 1000 actively brokered referrals to other support organisations
  • Greater than £130m in financial benefit for businesses

As a non-profit making organisation operating without physical headquarters or permanent building space, SWMAS brings MAS best practice in Lean operations and organisational Strategy with a strong affinity for SME manufacturing. These values have been central to the establishment and operating ethos of the MAC consortium.
