Services | Supply Chain Improvement Programme
The support that MAS-WM provides for West Midlands’ companies is already making a positive impact, especially through the Supply Chain Improvement Projects that it has already undertaken.
Many of these have successfully been undertaken in the Aerospace and Rail industry sectors where the structured approach to improving supply chain efficiency and developing mutually beneficial partnership with suppliers and customers has been productively achieved.
The good news for West Midlands companies is that this support has been enhanced and extended and is now available to all sectors across the region. If you are a manufacturer with an established supply chain that predominantly resides in the West Midlands, you may wish to benefit from a range of support available to help you to work better with your supply base to set high standards and to continuously improve the quality, cost, delivery and compliance of your entire supply chain network.
Who Can Apply?
Although the whole supply chain benefits from a SCIP, it is most common that the host company, at the head or OEM position in the chain, applies for the support and manages the project. The host company can be any size located within the West Midlands. We expect the supply chain to consist of 6-8 companies, mainly SME’s and operating within the West Midlands, although not all have to be. Up to 2 members of the supply chain may be located outside the West Midlands and up to 2 members can be Non SME’s. Although this programme does not extend to Automotive and Aerospace supply chains, other MAS programmes are available to provide substantial support in these areas.
What types of projects are eligible?
The focus of a Supply Chain Improvement Project is to improve the overall effectiveness and competitiveness of ALL participants within the supply chain and thereby help secure both existing and new business. They are bespoke projects designed for your needs.
Projects can include (but not limited to)
- Standard development across the supply chain
- Developing more effective material processes throughout the supply chain
- Rapid and robust introduction of new products and processes
- Improving collaborative working
- Improving Quality, Cost, Delivery and Responsiveness throughout the supply chain
What funding is available?
The host company can apply for a grant of between £40,000 - £100,000. This grant excludes VAT and requires to be matched by the host which makes a total project value ranging from £80,000 - £200,000. The amount of grant will depend upon the project scope and duration.
How long will a Supply Chain Improvement Project (SCIP) take?
This depends on the project, but on average 9 – 12 months is expected.
Who can deliver the project?
Any specialist consultant with the demonstrable skills necessary for the successful completion and delivery of the project. Consultants on the West Midlands Supplier Register are preferred, but not mandatory.
