The support that MAS-WM provides for West Midlands’ companies has a positive impact. This is certainly the case through its Topic Based Network approach to efficiency improvement and cost effectiveness.
Such
collaborative networks have been particularly successful with companies
in the North Staffs area where MAS-WM have partnered with the North
Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce, Michelin and the CERAMIC Industry
Forum to deliver help and support to several complimentary companies who
share a common concern.
Manufacturing ‘topic based networks’ operate from a common platform that allows companies to work together to make mutually beneficial business improvements. Each group, under the supervision of sector / skill specific MAS-WM Associates takes a practical approach to introducing manufacturing business improvements.
Manufacturers work collaboratively with each other to make sustained business improvements through:
- Facilitated seminar / workshop – designed to address issues that are common across all manufacturing sectors. Issues such as change over reduction, waste elimination, process flow and layout etc.
- Detailed manufacturing review – each company selected to participate in the Network program will undergo a detailed review of the operational performance. This will include data capture and analysis providing quantifiable improvement targets with in the business.
- Group sessions – Companies participating in the topic based Networks will have facilitated group sessions where they will be encouraged to work together in order to share knowledge, experiences and best practice. Incorporating Best Practice seminars, workshops and company visits.
- Individual Improvement Programs – Each company participating in the topic based Networks will have an individually tailored work program aimed at improving business performance within specific area of their organisation.
- Best Practice Visits – Exemplar companies as identified through the IME program will host best practice visits in order to provide benchmarking for improvement potential. Companies within the topic based Network will be actively encouraged to visit one-another’s site during the.
- Facilitated Sign Posting – On completion of the Network activity a group review and final presentation event takes place to allow the opportunity for the group to share results and experiences. It also provides an opportunity to review ongoing needs and referrals to appropriate external providers of support.
